Ok folks what we have waited for is finally here.  No more broken water pipes, no more freeze burned plants, no more frosty windshields and frozen car seats.  Isn’t it AWESOME.

"Crazy" Caribbean Crazy Ants

Ok, how many of you have heard of the Caribbean Crazy Ant?  Raspberry Crazy Ant?  Well if you have not heard of it you likely will in the next few years.  For those of you that live south of Missouri City  you probably have seen them and not known it.  As always the Entomology Department at A&M has a great fact sheet.  http://urbanentomology.tamu.edu/pdf/RCA_control_fact_sheet.pdf

Preparing for a Flea or Tick Treatment

As with all insects removing fleas from a home is very difficult. There are hundreds of products on the market and dozens of pest control companies that claim they have the quick, easy and cheap way to get rid of them.

Bed Bugs

We have all heard it, “Sleep tight, and don’t let the bed bugs bite”. Up until about five years ago having bed bug bites was relatively unheard of. In fact, many people especially if they were born after 1965 had never seen a bed bug. However over the last few years bed bugs have made resurgence in North America. There are many theories behind this resurgence but these are generally just that; theories.

Weevils

The rice weevil and granary weevil are pests of stored grain and seeds. They develop inside whole grain kernels as small, white, wrinkled, grub-like larvae. There is generally no external evidence that the larvae have been eating and growing inside the seed until after about one month when the adult weevil chews through the seed coat and emerges. The adult weevils are 1/8th inch long and have slender, hard-shelled bodies that appear pitted or scarred with tiny holes. They are brown to reddish brown in color. The rice weevil has four faint yellowish spots on the back of the abdomen. The granary weevil is uniformly colored with no spots.

Treatment protocol for Springtails.

1. All moisture sources in the home must be eliminated.

A dehumidifier and floor fans can be used to reduce moisture in the air.
The windows and doors should be kept closed and the air handling equipment should be used to aid in the dehumidification process.

Welcome to the new Modern pest Control blog.  I will take a moment to introduce myself and then our company....Not that many care but I just want to be upfront on who is doing the talking here.  My name is Del Lawson and our company is Modern Pest Control.  Many of the people who read our blog will be friends of mine (Thanks for taking the time) current customers, potential customers and some folks who just want something to fill the time with before they go to bed. (Although I'm not sure if this will make good bedtime reading)

Re: Bed Bugs
I remember my grandparents used to say this to me when they would put me to bed. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think they were an actual pest, much less that they would become such a horrible problem. Pest control companies all over the country deal with multiple calls from people dealing with bed bugs every single day.
Re: Preparing for a Flea or Tick Treatment
Fleas and ticks are a homeowners' nightmare! These tiny pests are almost impossible to see and if you can see them, then it's likely the problem is really out of control! Do yourself a favor if you are dealing with either of these, call a professional pest control company rather than dealing with it yourself.
Re: "Crazy" Caribbean Crazy Ants
I think patience may be the hardest thing to get people dealing with any type of pest problem to understand, but it is absolutely necessary. Do-it-yourself products, such as Raid, are kill on contact solutions that give people the results they want- the ants to disappear. However, what they don't realize is this is only a temporary solution. Products that professional pest control companies use provide a long term solution, rather than a temporary fix.
Re: Treatment protocol for Springtails.
Springtails are one of those pests that not everyone has heard of, so any tips and education are most helpful! Pest control companies everywhere should ensure their customers are well educated no matter what pest they're having a problem with. Keep it up!
Re: Preparing for a Bed Bug Treatment
This is a great blog! With the sudden burst of bed bug activity, people are constantly looking for more information regarding bed bugs and what they can do to either protect their homes from them, or eradicate them from their homes if they have already infested it. Pest control companies work tirelessly researching new treatment methods and information about bed bugs.

Re: Preparing for a Bed Bug Treatment
Bed bugs are so much in USA today. And if you call for extermination services you will be told how to prepare.
Re: Bed Bugs
To get rid of the bed bugs call a professional. It's the best way.
Re: Preparing for a Bed Bug Treatment
Bed bugs cannot climb polished glass or metal easily and they don't fly, so that the legs of beds can also be placed inside glass jars or metal cans.
